Get the Iron Out
With fall just around the corner, its time to pep up your evergreen with a little bit of iron to make your trees and shrubs hold that beautiful green color all winter. Iron is a key nutrient in all plants but your evergreens especially! The typical signs of an iron deficiency is a yellowing of the foliage, followed by needles dropping. So what do we do to address this problem? There are several products to choose from. Ironite is a granular iron booster. This product is slow release but is the best for your evergreens and also can be used on those yellow spots on your lawn.
Now evergreens aren't the only plants in the yard that will benefit from a little dose of iron. Your maples are also in danger of suffering from Chlorosis which is a Botanical term for an iron deficiency. Maples are by far the most susceptible to Chlorosis in Montana. the p.h. balance of our soil is not conducive for natural maple growth so application of iron is a must for all maples. The best way to get a maple to absorb the iron is not from a granular product like Ironite but with chelated liquid iron from ferti-lome . This is the best option for your broad-leaf trees.
